MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION.
Townsville Metal Detecting Club is the oldest continuous detecting club in Queensland, the club was formed in 1984 and currently has a membership of aprox 130 members. Due to the numerous field trips and other activities we have members from all over Queensland as well as other states.
Field trips are friendly social gatherings with members detecting or working creeks and gullies in other ways to find gold. The majority of members attending these trips usually find some gold. If required, new members are afforded information on detector use and hints on how to find gold. All field trips are managed in a safe manner with members carrying UHF 2-way radios at all times and advising other members when they intend to leave the campsite and when they return. The club Field Officer takes First aid kit,an AED and a plb . A Gazebo is
available also.
Being a friendly club catering for families and members of all ages and mobility all events and meetings are well attended with members having their say into all club activities.
We have the support of two Minelab agents in the North Queensland area, Cairns Prospecting World and Townsville Prospecting World, these shops also sell and support other brands of detectors as well as all other prospecting needs. We also have the support of many local businesses, some of which are mentioned on our home page.
Club members are many with a large knowledge base of detecting, sluicing, panning, refining of gold, making jewellery etc. As well as looking for gold. Members also spend time at beaches, parks, historic sites etc, searching for relics and coins. Throughout the year the club receives numerous requests from the public to find lost jewelelry and other items of value. Other requests have been to find nails thrown onto a local soccer field by vandals. The majority of times items have been successfully re-united with their owners.
If interested in joining please send your name and details to townsvillemetaldetectingclub@gmaIl.com. Other contact information is under the "Contact us" tab
